Dubai Crossfit
Championship Day 2:

Horvath and Khrennikov set the standards

Published 2021

The opening event of day 2 saw the first test of real strength at the Dubai Crossfit championships with each athlete given 2 lifts in total at a weight of their choosing.

On the men’s side of proceedings, the safe bet to win the event Bronislaw Olenkowicz drew with Tola Moralkinyo despite a tie breaker and Jeff Adler with Jeff Adler coming third. Each athlete successfully lifted 165kg in the event before Olenkowicz and Morakinyo both hitting 160kg again while Adler managed 155kg.

Following his first win, Olenkowicz said “I hadn’t lifted such a heavy weight in months, so I thank DCC for the opportunity to prove myself”

Elsewhere relatively unknown athlete Manon Agonese lifted 115kg in the women’s competition to take the event win. Two favourites for the competition victory, Gabi Migala and Laura Horvath both successfully lifted 110kg to come second in the event.

The event 3 chipper consisting of 50 calorie row, 40 A-Jump with vest (20lb/14lb), 20 bar muscle-ups and 10 paralette push-ups handstand push-ups, strict for men and kipping for women followed by the same exercises in reverse order. While the competition leaders all produced strong finishes, the event was won by Lazar Dukic while Samantha Briggs collected her second win of the weekend by holding off pressure from Laura Horvath.

When asked about her plan going into the event, Briggs said “Keep my heart rate down as much as possible so when I got back to the sandbags, I was able to keep a steady pace and that paid off”

Event 4 was an opportunity taken by both Laura Horvath and Roman Khrennikov to cement their positions at the top of the leader boards as they both secured 1st place again to collect 100pts. The final event of the day included a 20 Calorie bike erg, 15m unbroken handstand walk and 10 overhead squats. With a 3-minute time cap the event would be completed 4 times with the field cut down from 10 to 4 competitors after each round. While Horvath produced the winning times when they mattered Khrennikov showed consistency by producing the fastest time in every single round.

Following the event, the Russian said (translated) “I was wondering why everyone was resting while I was working so it was good to see that I was the best at that”

With their impressively consistent days complete, Horvath and Khrennikov both have healthy leads going into the final day of competition where it is yet to be confirmed how many events we have remaining.
